What is Shopmobility?

Scarborough Shopmobility provides the hire of powered scooters and manual wheelchairs to people whose mobility is restricted by permanent or temporary disablement, age, accident or illness.

Scarborough Shopmobility is a Not-for-Profit Limited Company (4478370) & Registered Charity (1111575).
Who can use the service?

Anyone who has difficulty in walking - young or old - can hire a mobility vehicle.

You must be able to control the vehicle of your choice. Or if you require someone to push you around in a wheelchair. We may be able to provide a helper.
How does Shopmobility operate?

First you will need to register with Scarborough Shopmobility by completing a registration form.

Please bring two forms of identification, each printed with your name and address (e.g. driving licence, recently paid utility bill).

When you arrive at Shopmobility, we will give you instructions and driving practice before you set off to enjoy your trip.

Registration can be completed on the first day you wish to hire a vehicle - but always book in advance to avoid disappointment.

Scooters and wheelchairs are available for hire for periods of up to two weeks. A returnable deposit of £70-00 is required, the first £20-00 of which is to be paid at the time of the booking.  Scooters are normally hired overnight only to visitors who are staying at hotels or guest houses on our "Approved" list - where we know the scooter can be safely stored and its battery charged.  However we do have a limited number of lightweight scooters that can be taken to private homes, caravan parks etc.

Wheelchairs may be taken to hotels, guest houses, private homes and caravan parks .

We do not have sufficient staff resources to deliver scooters or wheelchairs but are usually able to collect them from a local address at the end of the hire period.

Please use the "Hire Charges" link to find out the cost of hiring a scooter or wheelchair for an extended period.
